Happy Kids Paediatrics cancellation policy for patients and parents:

Happy Kids Paediatrics patient appointment cancellation policy has been updated effective 1st January 2023. Starting 1st January 2023, you will be requested to confirm your child’s appointment by 10.00am on the working day prior to the appointment. Any cancellation after 10.00 am on the day prior to the appointment will be considered a late cancellation and a late cancellation fee may apply. If your confirmation is not received by 10.00 am the day prior to appointment, and in the absence of a request from you to reschedule the appointment, it is considered that you no longer wish to proceed with the appointment. In that case, your appointment will then be offered to a child who is on our waiting list. To help you in this process, you will be sent reminders of the appointment via SMS as a courtesy, usually 2 days prior to the appointment, and it is your responsibility to ensure you have confirmed your child’s appointment on time. In the event of non-attendance without prior cancellation of the appointment a full appointment fee will be charged. Please forward request for cancellations or rescheduling the appointment via telephone number (03) 9123 4525 or send an email to reception@happykidspaediatrics.com.au .

A valid referral by a general practitioner or a specialist is required to receive a Medicare rebate for the consultation.

Your general practitioner can provide you with a referral which could be valid for 12 months, from the date of the first appointment.

Specialist referrals are valid for 3 months from the date of the first appointment.

Medicare rebates vary with the type of consultation and the number of consultations done within 12 months after the initial consultation. You can have more information here:

Any clinical questions must be directed to paediatrician at the time of consultation. Further enquires can be forwarded via email, which will then be forwarded to paediatrician for any advice or response. Please note reception staff and administration staff are not allowed to answer any of the clinical questions or provide information about what assessments are undertaken at the time of the consultation by paediatrician.
If you arrive 15 minutes later than your appointment time, you may be advised to reschedule your appointment as arriving later than 15 minutes of appointment time may reduce the time your child and you spend with the paediatrician, which could impact the quality of the consultation. Rescheduling at such a time may incur a fee. Late arrivals may cause patients following your appointment also get seen later than scheduled as appointments are scheduled one after another.
Carefully read the welcome email that you have received with the appointment details as it contains the next steps and what you need to ring for the appointment.Over the course of time you will receive SMS reminders as a courtesy to allow you to confirm the appointment or to reschedule.
Once you have confirmed the appointment, any rescheduling or cancellation will incurr a rescheduling or a cancellation fee according to the fee schedule.
We will accommodate two adults with the child in the consultation room. Siblings are allowed if they are less than 12 months old only.

Behaviour and Development Related FAQ’s

Find answers to common questions, unravel complexities, and gain a deeper understanding of your child’s behaviour and developmental milestones.
An assessment for ADHD is a component of the consultation by the paediatrician. This also includes the history, examination and reviewing any previous assessment reports or providing paperwork to be completed by parents and school. Sometimes ADHD assessment may require a referral to a psychologist.
An assessment for Autism involves history taking, examination, some blood/urine/saliva tests, and a further review/s in most cases. Your child may also be referred to an external allied health therapist or an assessment team for further assessment prior to confirmation of diagnosis.
It is best to bring your child to the appointment, however if you anticipate extreme anxiety or behavioral problems you may consider coming to the appointment without the child. In this case you may require to bring your child for another appointment later on, depending on the situation, especially if there is a requirement for medication and physical examination.
In this case you will need to bring someone else to provide company to the child while you speak with the paediatrician. Please be aware it is sometimes extremely difficult to not mention certain topics that are relevant in your child’s situation when your paediatrician explains to you their assessment or advice, as it may overall alter the quality of the consultation and the recommendations.
